Metro ECD centres are ready for 2023

These ECD centres have undergone various upgrades and renovations throughout the past year.

All metro-managed early childhood development centres (ECDs) will be ready to take in children from January 16, according to the Tshwane municipality.

MMC for Social Development and Community Services, Peggy de Bruin, said that the centres are in a “good state” after taking a big hit from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is a major development because most of our ECD centres remained closed for an extended period due to lingering negative effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns,” said De Bruin.

In total, seven ECD centres are managed by the metro and its social development department.

These are located in regions 3 and 6. The metro said that these centres will give young children foundational learning and develop their skills.

“I believe that ECD centres play an important role in a child’s development,” De Bruin said.

“These centres provide the foundation for all future learning, behaviour and health. A strong foundation helps children develop the skills they need to become well-functioning adults. Optimising the early years of a child’s life is the best investment the City and communities can make in ensuring a successful future for our young ones.”

These ECD centres have undergone various upgrades and renovations throughout the past year, including additional security as well as the recruitment of chefs and trained, professional teachers in addition to a refurbished learning programme.

“All the personnel employed at these centres have been properly vetted, screened and cleared to work with children. Taking into consideration the current economic climate faced by our communities, we have ensured that enrolment fees are kept at a minimum of about R300 per month,” De Bruin said.

Application forms are available at the following centres:

– Itumeleng Preschool, corner of Mokgatle and Letsoalo streets (Atteridgeville)
