Central police, partners visit local schools

The stakeholders visited Hoërskool Langenhoven, Pretoria secondary and Pretoria High.

Pretoria Central police, political and community organisations visited three schools in the area recently to welcome back learners for 2023.

The stakeholders visited Hoërskool Langenhoven, Pretoria secondary and Pretoria High to address the learners, and pledge their commitment to ensuring they learn in a safe environment.

The effort forms part of the “Adopt-a-cop” programme, initiated by the SA police service a few years ago to ensure learner safety is not compromised.

Sergeant Madi of Central SAPS has played a key role in this programme and led the recent effort accompanied by members of SACP, ANC, Sanco and other community associations in conjunction with the education department.

“I want to assure schools that the SAPS will frequent schools to address social issues and other related matters that might affect schooling,” said Madi.

Station commander Brigadier Moses Dladla expressed his gratitude for the efforts by the stakeholders involved, stating that “unity can yield positive results”.

“Drugs remain a major concern but the school visit will ensure that learners will not consume any drugs on the school premises,” said Central SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

Parents were called on to join the fight against social ills that can negatively affect the lives of their children.

“The station seeks parents to monitor their kids and be involved in [their] daily lives, to ensure that they are not involved in any illegal activities and also to minimise crime among the youth,” Nkhumise concluded.

For further information or any inquiry, contact the station on 012 354 4000 or 08600 10111.
