Ward councillors in east of Pretoria arrange water tankers

“High-lying areas are the first to run out of water and the last to receive water, so we are prioritising them with the tankers as it will take a while for the water to be restored.”

Ward councillors have arranged for water tankers to make sure that residents in the east of Pretoria have access to water.

This was after the eastern parts of Tshwane were plagued by water shortages for several days now due to empty reservoirs and problems with the main water supply.

Ward 82 councillor Siobhan Muller said the metro dispatched water tankers in various affected areas, but the tankers are unfortunately not enough to provide relief to everyone.

“We have limited numbers of tankers, although the number of households is many. We are trying our best to rotate the tankers across the wards so that everyone can get a little bit of water,” Muller said.

“This is a difficult situation, but we are helping out one another and sharing the little water we have.

“We know that the City did its best to provide tankers, so we will have to wait till all reservoirs are at full capacity,” she said.

Muller said the tankers are prioritising residents in high-lying areas.

“Some low-lying areas started receiving water on Tuesday afternoon although the reservoirs were just trying to pick up.

“High-lying areas were the first to run out of water and the last to receive water; so we are prioritising them with the tankers as it will take a while for the water to be restored.

“We urge everyone to use water sparingly and to allow the reservoirs to stabilise,” she said.
