Notorious criminal dies after shootout with police
"The suspect will not be appearing in court because he was shot, rushed to hospital and later died,” says metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba.
A man, who was due to appear in court for various crimes, died of his wounds after a shootout with law enforcement last week.
The man was arrested for drug possession, according to TMPD spokesperson Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
He was wanted for various crimes including murder after he was seen strangling a child to death during a house robbery in a video.
Mahamba said the suspect was a notorious criminal who was wanted for ATM bombings, house robberies and assault.
“The suspect will not be appearing in court because he was shot, rushed to hospital and later died,” Mahamba added.
Mahamba said the man, together with a second suspect, was arrested by the TMPD.
He warned other drug dealers that the unit will make sure they get arrested and the law will take its course.
Residents were urged to assist by coming forward with information if they know any drug dealers and their identity will be protected.
Mahamba urged residents to report any suspicion of fraud, corruption or other irregular conduct to TMPD on 080 TSHWANE (080 874 9263).
Acting chief of police Basil Nkhwashu has expressed his gratitude to the tactical unit who continue to work hard to fight crime in Tshwane.
“The TMPD will continue to combat crime in Tshwane,”’ Nkhwashu concluded.
