A HIGH-SPEED CHASE

Three of the five suspects were later arrested following a police chase.

The robbery and ensuing chase happened around 13:00 on Wednesday, June 7.

“Officers from the Garsfontein SAPS immediately circulated the information that helped a local security company spot the suspects,” said police spokesperson Johan van Dyk.

“A high-speed chase ensued between SAPS and the suspect vehicle,” said Van Dyk.

He said the suspect vehicle was later involved in an accident on the N3 at the Marlboro off-ramp.

“Garsfontein police officers with the assistance of a local security company from Garsfontein made the arrest and recovered a pistol that was used in the house robbery,” said Van Dyk.

ALL THE STOLEN ITEMS WERE RECOVERED

Van Dyk said that the suspects were charged with attempted murder, house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen property and possession of stolen vehicle.

“All the stolen items were recovered.”

“The recovered firearm will be sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic tests to determine if it could have been used in the commission of other offences.”

Tshwane police commissioner Major-General Nengovhela thanked the SAPS and members of the security services who assisted with the criminals’ arrest.
