One dies in police, suspects shootout in Ga-Rankuwa
The police found the suspects in the process of robbing a garage, then a shootout ensued.
A shootout between police and five suspects on Friday in Ga-Rankuwa led to the death of one suspect, the arrest of another and the escape of the remainder.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the police were alerted to an alleged robbery and swiftly responded.
When they arrived at the scene, the robbers allegedly welcomed them with a volley of shots.
Van Dyk said the police messed up the plans of the robbers.
“The police found the suspects in the process of committing a business robbery at Neo Delta garage in Ga-Rankuwa,” Van Dyk told Rekord.
He said during the confrontation, shots were fired, resulting in the death of one suspect.
Van Dyk said the arrested suspect is facing charges of robbery and related offences.
The escaped suspects remain at large and police are continuing their investigation.
“Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the remaining three suspects and bringing them to justice. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police immediately.”
Van Dyk said the 37-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court soon.
