Police arrest man with unlicensed firearm, bullets in CBD

The Tshwane Flying Squad recovered a stolen gun and bike.

Members of the Tshwane Flying Squad recently apprehended a man in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition in Pretoria central.

The arrest came this past weekend when squad members received a tip-off from a resident that a man was carrying a firearm.

“Once we received the tip, we acted on information which led us to the corner of Bosman and Madiba streets. Upon arrival, members arrested the suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect was detained at the Pretoria Central police station,” spokesperson, Sgt. Legodi states.

The firearm, a silver 9mm Par Norinco and 12 bullets were booked by police.

Firearm tests indicated that the weapon had not been fired and belonged to a resident of Ulundi.

Squad members also recovered a white R1 Superbike which was reported stolen in Lyttelton.

The bike was recovered at Roger Dyson and Frikkie Meyer Street in Pretoria West and is valued at R400 000.

Pretoria Central local criminal record centre (LCRC) was called to the scene to process the bike before it was taken to the local impound for further processing.

No suspect was located near the bike, which had been traced with the assistance of a Cartrack device.

Motorists are cautioned to ensure that their vehicles are locked properly before they leave and beware of all their surroundings while driving as well as consider investing in a tracking device.
