R101 accident near Rooiwal claims one, three critically injured
The accident involved three vehicles. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate some of the trapped patients.
Tshwane emergency medical services responded to the scene of a collision on the R101 near Rooiwal, which resulted in one fatality and three injuries.
Spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the accident involved three vehicles.
“A bakkie and a red hatchback car collided first before a white sedan crashed into the two stationary vehicles.”
Mabaso said the EMS personnel worked quickly to secure the scene and provide medical assistance to those involved.
“One individual sadly lost their life, and three others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical,” he said.

Mabaso said some of the patients were entrapped in the car wreckage.
“Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate some of the trapped patients,” Mabaso said.
He said the injured were stabilised and transported to hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“The scene was handed over to the forensics team and the SAPS for a further probe.”
