Police on the lookout for church robbery suspects

A 13-year-old boy was assaulted during the robbery.

Hercules police are on the lookout for four men that robbed churchgoers at gunpoint after an evening service in the area last night.

The robbery took place around 20:05 on Sunday (October 15) at the Reformed Church on Van Riebeeck Road in Daspoort, west of Pretoria.

Chairperson of the Herules CPF, Johan van Staden said that the church members were locking up the building after the evening service when four armed men in a white Toyota arrived.

“The four robbed the churchgoers of their phones, money and jewellery, as well as took one of the PCs in the church,” Van Staden said.

“The robbers also assaulted a 13-year-old boy during the attack by hitting him over the head with one of the guns and stomping on him while he was down.”

Van Staden said one of the churchgoers fired two shots at the robbers.

The church is also allegedly used by residents of the nearby Mirte Hof old age home.

Witnesses gave a partial description of the white Toyota and said one robber wore red clothing.

Hercules CPF confirmed that SAPS was called to the scene and detectives are currently investigating.

Residents with information related to this robbery are urged to contact their local authorities.
