Pretoria police arrest four for house break-ins

A partnership between police and stakeholders led to the arrest of suspected housebreaking syndicate members.

The Pretoria central police have arrested and charged four men for possession of suspected stolen property.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Johannes van Dyk said the men were arrested on Thursday are held at Pretoria Central.

He said they are linked to multiple house robberies, hijacking and house break-ins in Wonderboom.

“The investigating officer and the accused are currently at Pretoria Central. I am waiting for the investigating officer to update me and also to update charges on the system,” Van Dyk added.

He said the four were arrested after they were spotted in a suspicious vehicle parked outside a house.

He said police were immediately alerted and during the arrest, seized vehicles –VW Polo 8, Hyundai i20, Mazda , used to conduct criminal activities – flat-screen TVs and multiple cellphones, among other things.

The area has been known for its spate of robberies and hijackings for years.

Previously Rekord reported that a Wonderboom-South building had become a hotspot for criminal activity and vagrancy.

According to residents, the Foley and Law building, on the corner of Steve Biko Road and Hertzog Street, has in the past two years been the source of many problems.
