When the police arrived on the scene, the robbers started shooting at them and managed to escape with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Three ATMs were bombed at a Soshanguve Block TT supermarket early on Wednesday morning and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the bombing happened at 03:15.

He said the suspects used a crowbar to force open the main gate of the complex.

“The suspects proceeded to bomb the two Capitec and one Standard Bank ATMs and subsequently left the crowbar at the scene.”

He said Soshanguve police were on patrol in and around ext 1. and Block TT when the bombing occurred.

“When the members heard three loud explosions, they went to investigate.”

Van Dyk said upon the police’s arrival, the group of robbers started shooting in their direction.

“The police called for backup and also managed to shoot in the direction of the suspects.”

He said the suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Van Dyk said no injuries were reported, only damage to the ATMs and property due to the explosion.

He urged residents to quickly phone the crime prevention number should they hear strange sounds or see any suspicious activity.
