Saturday sizzling braais in aid of children’s home

Several people teamed up to braai for a good cause.

Several people braaied for a cause at the Skud Jou Vleis Braai Competition on Saturday.

The aim was to raise funds for the President Kruger Children’s Home and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

The competition was held at the Adelaars Restaurant and Venue, in the Moot area, from 06:00 until 15:00.

One of the organisers, Gerhard Daffue, said the fundraising event was held under the theme, ‘Braai for a Cause’.

Daffue said a total of 27 teams consisting of four people per team participated in the competition.

He said the fun-filled community event is not only about sizzling braais, good food, and family fun – it’s about making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

Since its launch in 2023, the event has raised over R161 000 in support of the President Kruger Children’s Home in Pretoria, helping to fund vital projects like a much-needed minibus purchased earlier this year.

“This year, the fundraising goal has been set at R200 000. The funds will go toward replacing old, worn-out mattresses at the children’s home – giving the 63 children (aged 2 –18) a safe and comfortable place to sleep, essential for their health, growth, and well-being,” said Daffue.

One of the participants, Schalk Havenga, said it’s always fun to take part in the braai competition.

Daffue added that funds were raised by sponsorships, donations, financial contributions or donated products, vouchers, prizes, or services.

“Your support will not only bring joy and hope to these children but also strengthen our community spirit,” he said.
