Metro steps up leak repairs in region 6 through #ThibaDiLeakage campaign
The team has repaired 112 water meters, fixed 116 pipe leaks, and cleared 97 sewer overflows in region 6.
The metro is intensifying its efforts to curb water losses and reduce high consumption through its ongoing #ThibaDiLeakage service delivery campaign.
The targeted, high-impact initiative by the Tshwane Water and Sanitation Business Unit is addressing a great number of water leaks, reducing water losses and promoting water conservation.
The latest phase of the operation has focused on the eastern region (Region 6), which includes parts of the east of Pretoria, Mamelodi, and Nellmapius – areas that have been struggling with frequent water leaks and sewer blockages.
The campaign, led by MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo, together with the Water and Sanitation Business Unit (WSBU) and operational maintenance teams, tackled water-related issues across 14 wards.
Boshielo said the programme was in Region 6 recently, targeting wards 6, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 23, 28, 38, 40, 67, 86, 93, and 97.
He said the team repaired 112 water meters, fixed 116 pipe leaks and cleared 97 sewer overflows.
“The operation managed to resolve 18 of the most critical service delivery issues affecting ward councillors.”
The MMC thanked the metro teams for their hard work and urged councillors to continue reporting problem areas so water losses can be further reduced.
“The #ThibaDiLeakage intervention will now move to Region 1 [north-western] from November 11, targeting Soshanguve, Mabopane, and Ga-Rankuwa, which continue to experience high water consumption and leakages,” Boshielo added.
He also appealed to residents to use water sparingly and report leaks and sewer issues promptly.
“We ask residents for patience and co-operation as the city works to address these challenges. Together, we can stop water wastage and improve service delivery,” he said.
