Grade 1s taking their first academic steps at Curro

With no tears and plenty of smiles, Hazeldean and The Blyde Grade 1 learners began their schooling journey ready to learn and grow.

Curro Hazeldean and The Blyde welcomed a new generation of learners, officially marking the start of the school year.

Whatever the weather, from glorious sunshine to unexpected drizzle, nothing could diminish the magic of this special day.

The day shimmered with a mix of eager excitement and tender nerves, as learners, parents and guardians alike experienced the full spectrum of first-day emotions, from proud smiles and laughter to quiet moments of uncertainty.

The first day of school marks an unforgettable milestone, a moment that learners and their families will treasure for years to come.

Curro Hazeldean Primary School in the east of Pretoria was filled with laughter and excitement rather than nerves as 92 Grade 1s proudly walked into their classrooms for the very first time.

There were no tears in sight as all the little ones were ready to start school. Early nerves turned into excitement, and the children began jumping, singing, hugging one another and making new friends.

Curro Hazeldean Executive Head, Martin Botha, said the first day of school was filled with excitement, especially for the new Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners.

“They were thrilled to take photos with the school mascot and proudly show off their new uniforms. [Their] parents’ joy and pride will surely stay with them as lasting memories.”

Botha said the day marked new beginnings, a fresh year full of opportunities to achieve great things.

“The lively chatter between learners, parents, and educators set the stage for new friendships, while the teachers’ enthusiasm was truly inspiring. Parents capturing moments on their phones reflected the collective excitement. All in all, it was a fantastic day, and the courage and energy shown by our learners were truly remarkable.”
