I refer to the recent extensive coverage in your editions of the Rekord, of Rhino poaching in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, as well as the serious attacks on visitors to the Groenkloof and Klapperkop Nature reserves, and the escape of animals from the latter two.

These incidents raise serious questions about the ability of the municipality to manage and ensure the security of both humans and animals.

This failure by the municipality is of monumental proportions, and has implications for tourism to Tshwane and job creation.

Immediate and wide-ranging interventions are necessary – but a more permanent solution is possible on 3 August, by bringing about real and meaningful change through the ballot box.
