Drugs kill.
I recently buried my long-time friend who overdosed on drugs. He and his stepbrother died days from one another and yes, the stepbrother OD’d as well.
Now the phrase “drugs kill”, a phrase we have all heard, is seen every day but until you have lived or experienced it you will never fully understand.
I say this because burying a life full of potential is not easy, it is easily the worst thing I have experienced thus far and it all goes back to this evil called drugs.
But where does it begin? We ask: “What is wrong with him, why is he using drugs?”, “how will we stop our friends from using it?”
We all know the main problem is the drug dealer, because without a supplier there is no “product” and with no product there is no user/consumer.
The question is, how do we get rid of drug dealers?
The answer is quite easy, we can’t. The reason for this is drugs in our communities are a reality; it has always been there and will always be there.
What we need to do is get that “drug urge” out of our friends’ minds. It will not be easy but it has to start somewhere.
Many call it an addiction but I call it a mindset. I believe in the saying: “You can accomplish anything you put your mind to.”
I say this because my my brother lived on and off drugs for many years. Thousands were spent on rehab fees, but he came out and fell right back into his old habits. It was a struggle.
Here is the thing; he is not free because it drained all the toxins out of his system. He is not free because he shared his story in a circle with other “addicts”; he is not free because he was “rehabilitated”; my brother is free because he got his mindset right. He is free because he put his mind to it and believed he could do it.
If you want to do something and your mindset is right you can achieve it.
Changing someone’s mindset is the start of something new and I believe it is the way to defeat this evil.
