Thank you to the police

"By applying ingenious initiative, Col Mostert succeeded in tracking me down."

Rekord reader writes:

Great was my disappointment, frustration and anger recently when my wallet was stolen, presumably by the gardener or personnel of the cleaning service.

My wallet contained my driver’s licence, credit cards, petrol card, medical aid card as well as R100 in cash. Bureaucratic delay cancellation of my cards and reapplications were my fate, and who has the energy for that?

I offered a reward of R500 over the weekend (a good profit for the guilty party) if my wallet should turn up with the expectation that this would have resulted in the speedy return of my wallet. It did not. The possible parties involved all maintained their wide-eyed innocence.

Great was my surprise early on Monday morning, 23 October, when I received an SMS from Colonel Mostert of SAPS crime intelligence that my wallet and its contents – with the exception of the cash of course – was retrieved in a police operation or raid.

By applying ingenious initiative, Col Mostert succeeded in tracking me down (no easy task) by among others directing enquiries to my previous employer (which I didn’t even know I had).

Thereafter Col Mostert made an incredible effort by among others, making telephone calls and sending repeated SMSes to ensure that I immediately recover my wallet. Such unselfish conduct is very highly commendable. The police perform exceptional community service while the rest of us are sleeping. We can most certainly be very proud of such selfless law enforcement officers who maintain a vigilant watch over us. Thank you very much.
