Sport Highlights, 23 to 25 October
Sports enthusiasts have to make sure that the fridge are already packed early this weekend, because there is action throughout the weekend in various sports.
Very few professional punters will give the Springboks a chance to beat the All Blacks on Saturday, but South Africans will continue to stand firmly behind their team.
Rugby
It is doubtful whether there could exist a bigger battle in the game of rugby than a World Cup game between the Springboks and the All Blacks.
On Saturday night at 17:00 (SA time), this battle becomes a reality when the Springboks and the All Blacks will take each other on in the first semi-final of this year’s World Cup tournament.
South Africans have more rugby action to look forward to. The Golden Lions and Western Province will play in the Currie Cup final on Emirates Airline Park earlier in the day on Saturday. Kick off time for this big match is already at 13:15.
Cricket
On the cricket front there will also be local and international action. The Proteas is still on their tour in India and the two teams will conclude their one-day series this weekend.
The fifth and final ODI will be played in Mumbay on Sunday. Action will start at 10:00 (SA time).
The local Momentum one day series is almost at its half-way mark. The Titans will be hoping to keep their campaign on the winning track in their remaining two games of the first round.
Their weekend-fixture is against the Knights in Kimberley on Friday 23 October. It is a day-night game and action starts at 14:00.
Athletics
On Saturday 24 October, it is time again for the CSIR half marathon and 10km road race. This event also includes a 5km fun run.
The starting venue is on the North Campus of the CSIR in Pretoria. Both the 21.1km half marathon and the 10km race will start at 06:00, while the 5km fun run will start at 06:15. Enquiries: James da Siva on 082-448-2154.
Soccer
On the football front, there will be action in the Telkom Knockout Series this weekend. Two local teams will be in action.
On Saturday night SuperSport United takes on Golden Arrows on the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. This game will kick off at 20:15.
Mamelodi Sundowns is the other team that will be in action in the Telkom Knockout Series. They play against Free State Stars at Goble Park in Bethlehem in the East Free State.
