SPORT: Furman wants Bafana to develop winning mindset
“For us, as players, the challenge is to start winning games and get the fans back into the stadium."
Supersport United captain Dean Furman has urged Bafana Bafana to change their mentality following their uninspired 0-0 draw with Libya.
The national team performance at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday left the few fans present disappointed.
At the end of the game, the 30-year-old said the team needed to start winning games to win back the support of the fans.
“For us, as players, the challenge is to start winning games and get the fans back in the stadium. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
“We want to play in a full stadium and we are disappointed that the stadium wasn’t and for the fans who came, we want to thank you.”
Furman said a winning mentality was needed going forward.

“We know the fans expect a lot from us and probably rightly so,” he said after being named man of the match.
“We need that winning mentality – that’s what top teams have. They don’t celebrate nil-nil. We don’t have to accept nil-nil with Libya as a good result.”
Bafana game attendance has dropped significantly since their back-to-back defeats to Cape Verde in the 2016 World Cup qualifiers.
In the past five years, Bafana has found beating even “small” nations such as Libya, Mauritania, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Gambia and Niger difficult.
