SPORT: New Sundowns player describes his experience in Egypt
"In Ahly I have heard admirers calling for my name.”
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Phakamani Mahlambi recently described his struggle during his time with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The 21-year-old made his high-profile move from Bidvest Wits to Al Ahly last year where he went on to make 12 appearances.
After struggling for game time at the African club of the century, Mahlambi is back in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season looking to bounce back.
On his official Facebook account, the midfielder said he was not bitter about his lack of success in Egypt.
“Some believe that when I leave Ahly, I will carry a lot of anger and hatred inside me because of the lack of success with Ahly. But I am not mad because there is no rational person playing for Al Ahly and being a loser when he leaves the team.”
“In Ahly, I learned a lot I learned to fight. I learned to struggle. I learned not to lose. I learned well. I learned to love. In Ahly I have heard admirers calling for my name.”
In his message, he also shared his admiration for his former club’ supporters.
“I lost my relationship with Al Ahly as a player but I will return to the seats of the masses as a cheerful cheerleader with all his strength. The sad thing is that I will miss my brothers in the team I will miss the beautiful moments I will miss the audience who always loved me and support me so much; I wish success to the team to harvest all local and African tournaments.”
Last month, Sundowns signed Mahlambi for R13-million.
