SPORT: Faf squashes AB comeback rumours

Proteas captain Faf Du Plessis has rejected rumours that AB de Villiers might rejoin the squad ahead of next year’s Cricket World Cup.
The 34-year-old big hitter announced his retirement from international cricket in May this year, citing fatigue. He did make himself available for domestic cricket.
Since his retirement, speculation has been rife that De Villiers could be used as a consultant for the Proteas during the tournament.

Faf, however, said he was unaware of his mate’s comeback.
Speaking ahead of the Proteas’ tour to Australia, the Pretoria-born skipper said he would rather have AB back as a player and not as a coach or consultant.
“According to me, if he is not playing then you have the staff in your team that is there for a reason. If he were to be part of team management, I would rather have him actually playing than throwing balls to others off the field. So no, I do not think that would be a great option,” de Plessis said.
The Proteas take on Australia next month in a three-match ODI series.
The team will travel without Hashim Amla and JP Duminy due to injury, but this will open doors for Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Khaya Zondo and Farhaan Behardien.
