SPORT: Young Pretoria bowler oozing confidence
The 20-year-old Lutho Sipamla claimed three wickets to give the Pretoria side a much-needed win.
Tshwane Spartans fast bowler Lutho Sipamla’s good form continued when he helped his team to a four-wicket victory over Paarl Rocks on Wednesday afternoon at SuperSport Park.
The 20-year-old claimed three wickets in his first three overs to restrict the Rocks to 121 all out batting first.
His wickets included the prized scalps of skipper Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo.
The bowler said at a post-match press conference he was introduced to Faf by AB de Villiers.
“Yes, it was the first time I’d met Faf. We just said our names, introduced ourselves and he said to me I was bowling very nicely,” said Sipamla.
Asked if he wanted to play for the Proteas, Sipamla said he was working towards the goal of representing his country.
“I don’t put a set time or set date on when I want to play for the Proteas but I do know that I want to play for them one day. Even if it takes me five years or six, it doesn’t matter, my main aim is to play for the Proteas,” he said.
He said being drafted into the Mzansi Super League gave him an opportunity to display his skills and also learn from other players around the country.

“For me, it’s a great experience, I learn a lot and I’ll keep going to make sure we win our upcoming games.”
Following Wednesday’s win, the Tshwane Spartans have four matches to go and will need to win each of them to qualify for the semi-finals.
Wednesday’s game against the Rocks was not easy despite the visiting team posting a low total. The match went into the final over and Sipamla described the nervous moments.
“I was sitting in the changeroom very nervous. I still backed the boys, but yoh, my heart almost dropped for a second there,” he said.
“Robbie (Frylinck) did the thing, and at the end of the day it was a great feeling.”
Frylinck struck back-to-back boundaries off Dane Paterson in the final over to give the home team a much-needed win.
