SPORT: Former Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba returns to coaching
Shakes is one of the few successful Bafana coaches, having helped the side qualify for Afcon unbeaten back in 2014.
Former Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba is back in the game after he was named as the new Witbank Spurs coach earlier this month.
Mashaba wasted little time in getting the team back on track. Spurs, who were facing relegation, have managed to accumulate six points from their last two games to jump from last to 14th on the Nation First Division (NFD) log.
Since the news broke out, many football fans have been monitoring the progress of the 68-year-old mentor.

In a tweet, Bheki Vilakazi said he was happy that Spurs were back to winning ways (under Mashaba).
“Good to see my home team Witbank in position 14. Thank you Bra Shakes Mashaba. Operations climbing the Log.”
“Bra Shakes Mashaba did well, congratulations are in order to the longest-serving coach,” said Jabulani Zulu, also on Twitter.
“Last week after their first win since taking over, coach Shakes Mashaba said there are more (wins) to come for Spurs. Today they’re leading Real Kings 4-0 in the first half,” Tokozani Torrence said in another tweet.
Derick Ngodini, however, said he was very sceptical about Mashaba saving Witbank Spurs from relegation.
“Shakes Mashaba is a national coach, not a club coach, I don’t see him saving Witbank Spurs, doesn’t have the experience in NFD, ask Mushin Ertugral,” Ngodini tweeted.

Witbank Spurs will have to fight it out with the likes of the University of Pretoria to play another season in the NFD.
Mashaba was coach of the SA national soccer team from 2014 until 2016 when he was found guilty of misconduct by the South African Football Association (SAFA).
During that time, he coached Bafana in 27 official games, winning 12, drawing 12 and losing only three times.
In that period, his side scored 42 goals and conceded 26 times.
To this day, he remains one of the most successful coaches of the national team.
He is well remembered for helping Bafana qualify for the 2015 Afcon finals in Equatorial Guinea after an unbeaten qualifying campaign.
His last game was in November 2016 when he helped Bafana beat Senegal 2-1 in a crucial World Cup qualifier game.
