Downs, Supersport among winners at PSL awards

Hlompho Kekana was finally awarded for his work in the middle of the park when he was named midfielder of the season.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United players were among the winners at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) awards.

The awards took place in Durban on Sunday.

The biggest award of the night was the Footballer of the Season, which went to Orlando Pirates’s Tembinkosi Lorch.

The 26-year-old player faced stiff completion from the Downs duo of Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane.

Lorch was dominant again in the second category where he was named Absa Premiership’s Player’s Player of the season, again beating Kekana and Zwane.

In the third category, the trio was nominated again, this time for Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season where Kekana was finally awarded for his work in the middle of the park

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane walked away with the Absa Premiership Coach of the Season for the second year in a row after guiding the Brazilians to a successful defence of the Absa Premiership title.

Vincent Pule’s goal against Polokwane City on the last day of the Absa Premiership was voted by the public as the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the Season.

Peter Leeuwenburgh, the Cape Town City goalkeeper who has been outstanding this season, was voted as the MTN8 Last Man Standing for his role in helping his team win the MTN8 trophy.

SuperSport United’s Teboho Mokoena won the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season award.
