SPORT: Bafana train in Pretoria ahead of Afcon

At the weekend, coach Stuart Baxter named his final 23 man squad for the competition in Egypt.

Bafana Bafana have started their preparations for the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

On Saturday, coach Stuart Baxter oversaw the first practice at the Tuks Stadium in Hatfield for his chosen final 23-man squad for the tournament.

Bafana legends Mark Fish, Andre Arendse and Bradley Carnell were present for the training and had a few encouraging words for the players.

Fortune Makaringe, Ben Motshwari and Kermit Erasmus missed the cut when Baxter named his final squad this weekend.

In the goalkeeping department, Darren Keet, Ronwen Williams and Bruce Bvuma who were part of the team that defeated Libya 2-1 to qualify, were retained.

Tembinkosi Lorch, Hlompho Kekana, Thulani Serero and Dean Furman will be the heart of midfield while Thulani Hlatshwayo and Ramahlwe Mphahlele are expected to lead from the back.

Bafana’s strike force will be spearheaded by Percy Tau, Lebo Mothiba, Lars Veldwijk, Lebogang Maboe and Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Bafana next head for Dubai where they will play against Ghana in an international friendly before heading to Egypt for another friendly before the tournament proper begins.

Bafana Bafana are in Group D, together with Ivory Coast, whom they play in their opening game on 24 June, Namibia and Morocco.
