Tuks sink Limpopo in varsity football
University of Limpopo suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Tuks in an entertaining Varsity Football match at Tusks Stadium on Monday.
University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) defeated University of Limpopo 5-1 in the sizzling Varsity Football encounter at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Monday.
The defending champions came to the match hungry for a victory after suffering a disappointing 4-0 loss to University of Johannesburg last week.
Tuks striker Botshelo Mfulwane opened the score with a header in the first half – putting pressure on Limpopo. Mfulwane extended the lead a few minutes later.
Limpopo did not give up and hit back a few minutes to interval, bringing the score to 2-1. Clyde Kgatla scored Limpopo’s single goal.
Tuks came back in full force in the second half, landing three more goals. The tight Tuks defense opened no chance for Limpopo to score. Sibongile Njokwe, Lindsay Stowman and Mfulwane scored the last three goals of the game.
Tuks is currently in second spot on the log, with 9 points – one behind log leaders North West University (NWU).
The rest of the log standings are: University of Johannesburg (UJ) 8, University of Free State (Kovsies) 7, University of Western Cape (UWC) 4, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), University of Limpopo (UP) 1 and University of Cape Town (UCT) 1.
The next Varsity Football round on Monday at 18:00 will see Tuks against NWU and University of Western Cape taking on UP.
Other matches on the day will be Kovsies vs NMMU at Shimla Park and UJ vs UCT at Soweto Campus. The matches will kick off at 16:45 and 19:00 respectively.
