Just like they did in the Sunfoil four-day series, the Titans started their season in the Momentum one-day series on a low with an unnecessary loss to the Dolphins at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday. With the weather threatening to have an influence on the outcome of the match from the beginning, the Dolphins’ captain, Morné van Wyk, won the toss and decided to send the home side in to bat first. Unfortunately the Titans started a bit slow and lost two early wickets, but the young Theunis de Bruyn soon accelerated the pace when he got on track. De Bruyn eventually hit 108 runs from 116 balls. When Farhaan Behardien also made a brilliant contribution of 105 runs from 98 balls and the Titans completed their 50 overs with 340 on the scoreboard, they were in a strong position at the break. Unfortunately the bowlers could not do the same for their team. Sloppy bowling, combined with poor fielding eventually contributed to the fact that the Dolphins could pass the target set for them by the Duckworth–Lewis method after rain started falling during the lunch break. The Dolphins scored the winning runs eventually in the 42nd over to win the match by five wickets. The Titans’ next game in this tournament is this coming Sunday at Willowmoore Park in Benoni against the Knighs.
