After a struggling start the Titans pulled themselves together last weekend and turned around their campaign in the Momentum one-day series with two excellent wins. In the process, they gave the top team in the tournament, the Cape Cobras, a proper hiding and proved that they could beat any team if they play to their potential. Last Friday, the Titans played against the forerunners in the series, the Cape Cobras, at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The home team’s captain, Henry Davids, won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat first. Thanks to excellent bowling by men like Roelof van der Merwe, Marchant de Lange and Ethy Mbhalati, the Titans could limit the Cobras to a total of just 208 runs. They bowled the Capetonians all out in the 42st over. After this, men like Theunis de Bruyn (60), Farhaan Behardien (41) and Davids (33) needed just 39 overs to pass the Cobras’ total an wrap up the game to win by six wickets. On Sunday Davids and his team travelled to Port Elizabeth to play against the Warriors. Colin Ingram, captain of the Easten Cape team, won the toss and chose to bat first. This time it was the new signing in the team, Tabraiz Shamsi, together with De Lange who did major damage on the bowling attack. De Lange took four wickets and Shamsi did his part with two of his own. The Warriors did manage to get 278 runs in their 50 overs and this time the Titans’ batsmen would have to dig deep to be able to pass this total. Theunis de Bruyn continued his excellent form so far this year and his brilliant unbeaten 152 runs enabled the Titans to hit the winning runs in the 48th over. These two excellent victories enabled Davids and his men to move up to fourth place on the log while they played a game less than the other top teams. The Momentum one-day series is meanwhile suspended until January next year, while the Ram Slam T20 series will be given priority in November and December.
