The Reserve Bank Cycling Club again raised a hefty sum of money for the Sungardens Hospice with their Carousel Classic cycle race on Women's Day this year.
Proceeds from the annual Sungardens Carousel Classic bike race was handed over by the organisers, the Reserve Bank Cycling Club, to the Sungardens Hospice in the Gerhard de Kock auditorium at the bank last week. In August this year Rekord reported on the Sungardens Carousel Classic bike race that was successfully presented for the 15th consecutive year at Carousel Casino north of Pretoria.
The race, a 110km challenge to the professional cyclists and a 70km ride for the rest, became a popular feature for riders of all levels over the last 15 years.
A 10km fun ride was also part of the annual excitement of the race. Although the Reserve Bank Cycling Club, who organized the annual race, realised that participant numbers over the past few years declined, they regarded it as a normal trend.
Despite this they were still able to hand over a check of R70 000 to the Sungardens Hospice at a special function held at the Reserve Bank in Pretoria last week.
The Sungardens Hospice was the beneficiary of this bike race since its inception.
