Although it is clear the Titans cricket team made a serious effort to pull themselves together in the last few games of the Ram Slam T20 tournament, they will finish at the bottom in the standings.

The men from Centurion were able to achieve only two victories in the series. After five consecutive defeats since the series started on 2 November, the Titans had to come up with a dramatic fight-back effort if they wanted to save their campaign.

Rain and the Duckworth&Lewis system prevented them last weekend to get closer to the leaders on the log, but they had a small mathematical chance to slip in through the back door in their last three games.

Although Darren Sammy and his team were able to get a victory over the Dolphins last Wednesday in Benoni, this was not good enough. They desperately needed bonus points, but it was clear this team was not able to achieve this extra performance. Last Friday, Titans finally lost the race when they were beaten by one run by the Highveld Lions in Potchefstroom.

They also ended the season with a lost in Bloemfontein on Sunday, when they were defeated by the men from the Eastern Cape by 20 runs.

Marchant de Lange’s four wickets against the Warriors were a highlight and supporters of the Titans will hope he has overcome his injury nightmare. At his best he is always a potential match winner. However, it was too little too late and Titans ended up with the wooden spoon in this year’s domestic T20 series.

Titans couch Rob Walter is now under pressure and his management team will all have to pull a rabbit or two out of the hat to get their team to excel in the remaining local cricket series this season.

The Sunfoil four-day series continues towards the middle of December and the Momentum one-day series will continue late in January next year.
