The Unlimited Titans’ see-saw season continues after they started the local T20 series on Sunday with a defeat against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins beat the Titans at SuperSport Park in Centurion by six runs in both teams’ first game in this year’s Ram Slam T20 series.

After a few weeks of restricted success in the one-day series Momentum it appeared as though the Titans slowly began to gain momentum and with a few stars of the instant version of cricket in their ranks, there was hope they would do better this year in the Ram Slam tournament.

When Albie Morkel won the toss on Sunday and send the visitors from Durban in to bat first, things looked very positive for the men from Centurion. It is no secret that the Titans love to chase a score in both the quick format (T20) as in one-day cricket.

Unfortunately, two of the home side’s bowlers who have been stars in the team thus far this year, struggled to adapt to the instant version of the game. Marchant de Lange and Junior Dala could between the two of them only take one wicket (Dala), but both were very expensive.

Albie Morkel was the Titans’ best bowler with his two wickets for only 28 runs in 4 overs. Henry Davis (4.66 per over after 3 overs) was the most economical bowler for the home team, but he only managed to take one wicket.

Thanks to good contributions by David Miller (62) and Morné van Wyk (41) as well as Cameron Delport’s 25 off 18 balls and Kevin Petersen’s 22 of 21 balls, the visitors got 179 (for the loss of four wickets) in their allotted twenty overs.

This set the Titans to the task of batting at just under nine runs per over to try and win the game.

Although Henry Davids (31 of 26 balls) and Morkel (67 of 34 balls only) did their best to give the Titans the victory in their first game of this series, the two men basically stood alone in the Titans’ effort. Only four other men could get double figures (De Kock 11, Behardien 11, Morris 14 and Mosehle 11) as wickets fell with regularity.

The man who did the most damage was the young off break bowler from the Dolphins, Prenelan Subrayen. He took four wickets at only 5.5 runs per over. Andile Phehlukwayo also took two vital wickets that hurt the Titans.

This coming weekend the Titans play two games in the Ram Slam T20 series. On Friday night they will take on the Highveld Lions at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. On Sunday they return to their base in Centurion for the game against the Cape Cobras.
