Sport highlights 6 to 8 November

A weekend full of action starting with cricket and golf and ending with the semi-final of the Telkom knockout series on Sunday afternoon, awaits local sport fans.

With the rugby season officially a thing of the past, South African sport fans’ attention will probably now be mainly on the Proteas’ tour of India.

Cricket

The first test in the coming series of four test matches between South Africa and India starts on Thursday 5 November, at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. It is a five-day test and the action will start daily at 06:00 (SA time).

The Ram Slam T20 series continues with the Unlimited Titans playing two games this coming weekend. On Friday, they will take on the Highveld Lions in Potchefstroom at 18:00. On Sunday, Albie Morkel and his men return to their home ground in Centurion to play the Cape Cobras at 14:30.

Athletics

The half marathon, formerly known as the Liqui Fruit Irene Half Marathon, has changed its name to the King Price Irene Farm race. The King Price Irene Farm Race starts at 06:00 on Saturday 7 November.

Official walkers have a separate start at 05:45. All finishers will receive medals. There is a supervised kiddies entertainment area from 05:00 to 09:00, with the kiddie’s 1km fun run at 08:00 (for children 8 and younger). For more information visit www.irenerunner.co.za .

Golf

A month of very good golf action culminating in the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City early in December, kicks off this weekend. This week the Nedbank Affinity Cup will be played on the Lost City course at Sun City. Several top players will be in action.

Soccer

Only one local team will be in action in the ABSA Premiership this weekend. The rest finished their fixtures on Wednesday. AmaTuks will take on Maritzburg United at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday, at 15:30.

However, on Saturday, two local teams will play in one of the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout series. Mamelodi Sundowns will play against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium at 20:15.
