Flying Fish Beach Volleyball is back

The third season of the Flying Fish Beach Volleyball series kicks off this week at the University of Pretoria.

The third instalment of Flying Fish Beach Volleyball series kick off this week, when an expected 32 teams open the series at University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) on 25-27 August 2016.

A total of eight tournaments are scheduled to take place at venues across SA, making it the biggest beach volleyball series in the country.

The Flying Fish Beach Volleyball series is endorsed by Volleyball South Africa (VSA) – who are responsible for the qualification, registration and technical rules of the series. The series is also recognised by the Fédération Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB).

“We are really excited about the tournament series as it gives the professional player a national platform to test their mettle,” said Gershon Rorich, the director of Beach Volleyball SA.

“These players play for more than just the trophy at the end of the series. This event is recognised by the FIVB which means that these players earn points that get added to the overall FIVB points rankings,” Roroch pointed out.

Each event will take place over three days. The volleyball action kicks off with the round robin matches on Thursday, which includes a social matches encouraging aspiring volleyball professionals to go up against the country’s best. The Friday matches will feature eight teams that qualify out of the round robin stage and they will compete with the eight top-ranked teams in the country. The quarter- and semi-finals as well as the main final will take place on Saturday.

The weekend promises to be an exciting experience for all in attendance. Flying Fish will be setting up a host of activities to create a ‘FlavourFest’ vibe including a mixology section, where tournament goers can mix their own drinks using the Flying Fish range. Beer pong tables will be set up where spectators can do some competing of their own.

Entrance to the tournament is free so fans can enjoy some action-packed volleyball and be part of the ‘FlavourFest’ atmosphere over these three days.
