Irvette van Zyl wins SPAR women’s race in style
South African Olympian Irvette van Zyl won the SPAR women’s Challenge Pretoria in Centurion on Saturday.

For the first time since 2014 Irvette van Zyl was once again crowned champion of the SPAR Women’s Race in her home city.
Van Zyl won the 10km SPAR Women’s Challenge Pretoria in Centurion on Saturday. Her winning time was 34 minutes and 36 seconds.
The 30-year-old Van Zyl saw off a challenge from one of her biggest rivals, Nolene Conrad, who finished twelve seconds behind her in 34 minutes and 48 seconds. Kesa Molotsane was third in 34 minutes and 53 seconds.
The race has been completed in ideal cool weather. It was once again the highlight of the SPAR Grand Prix series and nearly 25,000 Pretorians arrived at SuperSport Park and took to the streets of Centurion, which was turned into a stream of pink shirts. There was once again the fat ones, the thin ones, the old ones, the young ones and quite a few babies in strollers. Then there was again hundreds of men who have done their bit for charity by taking part in the women’s race. These men once again braved the trail decked out in wigs, dresses and some even in high-heel shoes.
This race has become an undeniable part of Pretoria’s road running culture and hopefully all the participants were inspired to continue exercising for next year’s race.
