With participant totals in next month’s Tshwane Cycle Classic set to top the 10 000-rider mark, parking and venue arrangements at the Voortrekker Monument have been high on the priority list of the organisation and the City of Tshwane in the lead-up.

The second edition of the Tshwane Classic takes place on 4 November 2018 at the Voortrekker Monument in the capital city.

To assist in traffic flow to the venue, Eeufees Road is being opened for cyclists this year traveling to the Monument in their vehicles.  This will ensure the Monument’s parking facilities are filled up from the South as well as the North.

“Last year most cyclists parked at the Northern side of the Monument off the R101 Trichardt Road and it created bottlenecks. With traffic free-flow this year on Eeufees Road as well and two lanes being opened into the Monument off Eeufees Road, it will ease traffic congestion significantly from last year,” said race director Darren Herbst.

He said the organizers would like to urge cyclists to get to the venue as early as possible and if a participant is under time pressure, he must rather park at one of the secure shopping centres in the area – Groenkloof, Eldoraigne and Centurion – and ride on his bike to the start.

“It’s also a good idea to consider having someone drop you off at the start or, if your house isn’t too far from the venue, ride your bike from home,” Herbst advised.

The start of the race is in Eeufees Road in an easterly direction in front of the Monument.

The organisation is hard at work on all fronts leading up to the race.

The roads inside the Monument and on race route are being fixed and potholes filled in association with premier race partner Actop Asphalt. “These guys are passionate cyclists and they approached us out of their own accord and offered to supply all the asphalt needed to fill all the potholes on route.

“They are also fixing a road inside the Monument grounds, which needs some proper attention. This will elevate all cyclists’ experience at the Monument and showcase this beautiful historic landmark in a fitting way,” Herbst concluded.

Registration for Pretoria’s signature mass participation cycling event will take place at the following venues:

• Cycle Lab Fourways (parking inside the parking lot at Cycle Lab) – Wednesday 31 October 2018, from 10:00 – 17:00
• The Bicycle Company Centurion (parking inside TBC parking lot or secure in the Cul de sac) – Thursday 1 November 2018, from 10:00 – 18:00
• The Maslow Hotel Foyer, Sun Time Square, Menlyn Maine (parking in the under-cover casino parking lot at R10 per vehicle) – Friday 2 November 2018, from 10:00-18:00
• The Maslow Hotel Foyer, Sun Time Square, Menlyn Maine (parking in the under-cover casino parking lot at R10 per vehicle) – Saturday 3 November 2018, from 09:00 – 15:00
