Irvette van Zyl wins Soweto Marathon again

Irvette van Zyl successfully defended her title as Soweto Marathon women’s champion.

Pretoria’s Irvette van Zyl is still stunning athletics experts with her remarkable performances as a road runner shortly after her second pregnancy.

In the five months since the birth of her and hubby LJ van Zyl’s second son, she scored multiple wins in the Spar Ladies 10km events as well as setting a new 10km personal best on the road when she ran a world class 32:06 last month down in Durban.

On Sunday Van Zyl successfully defended her title as champion in the Soweto Marathon.

In the process she has shattered the race record with a brilliant time of 2:33:43, and finished well clear of seven-time winner Mamorallo Tjoka of Lesotho, who took second place in 2:37:12.
