Excitement prevails about first Boxing Day test ever in Pretoria
The first Boxing Day cricket test ever to be hosted in the interior of South Africa will take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion this year.
Boxing Day cricket test matches have long been part of the sport’s tradition.
However, in South Africa, Boxing Day tests were traditionally hosted in coastal cities such as Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, as holidaymakers from all over the country flock to these cities during the December holidays.
Over the past few years, the presentation of this test match was less popular in Port Elizabeth.
Cricket South Africa thus decided to break the tradition and this year the Boxing Day test match between South Africa and Pakistan will be hosted at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
The aim is to start a new tradition where Boxing Day tests will be hosted in the interior of South Africa, while Newlands in Cape Town will continue to present the New Year’s test match.
Cricket enthusiasts in Pretoria will therefore be able to support the Proteas at SuperSport Park between 26 and 30 December when they will take on Pakistan.
Tickets for this five-day test match are already available and the Titans’ management has called on cricket lovers to seize this opportunity to experience test cricket in a holiday atmosphere in the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
