Bulls announces the name of new CEO

After months of recruitment and a thorough screening process, the Blue Bulls Company announced on Friday morning the name of their new Chief Executive Officer.

“We have previously said we are looking for a Ferrari to do this job. I can confirm today, we found that Ferrari in Alfons Meyer …”

With these words, the president of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) and the chairman of the Blue Bulls Company’s board, Willem Strauss, presented the BBCo’s new Chief Executive Officer to the media on Friday morning at Loftus Versfeld.

After a thorough and detailed recruiting process the BBCo announced the appointment of Alfonso Meyer as their new CEO.

Meyer, who currently resides in Mossel Bay, will officially start in his new role on 1 January 2019. This will allow the Loftus debutant a one month overlap period with incumbent CEO Barend van Graan.

He spent 10 years, between 1992 to 2002 as a Managing Partner at PwC Consulting Services, after which he became the Managing Director of IBM Business Consulting Services. Meyer currently serves as a Non-Executive director at First Rand Group.

“A keen family man, and dad of three, he certainly epitomizes the values and beliefs of the Bulls Family. As most South Africans he is an avid sport enthusiast, with a keen interest in golf, having held the position of club captain and Chairman at Pinnacle Point Golf Club. He also serves on the home owners board of Pinnacle Point,” said the Bulls in their official press release.

Strauss said they extremely excited about the appointment of Meyer.

“We firmly believe that he is the man to take the brand forward. His track record and skill sets speak for themselves, together with a host of attributes that really appealed to the board that appointed him. On behalf of everybody at Loftus, I’d like to officially welcome him to the Bulls Family,” said Strauss.

* Meanwhile they BBCo also confirmed that they are in the final stages of appointing a head coach and will make an announcement during the course of next week.
