Exciting boxing action back in Pretoria
The Sun Arena at Time Square Casino and 5th Element Promotions have kept their promise to bring more top boxing action to Pretoria's boxing fans and the next tournament will be presented in Pretoria on 10 February.
After his long-awaited return to the boxing ring in October last year in Pretoria, the South African heavyweight boxing champion Ruann Visser promised his local fans that he would return to the city for his next fight.
He will now fulfil this promise on 10 February when he will again climb through the ropes at the Sun Arena for his second battle after returning to the ring after months of drama that kept him out of action and eventually had to be sorted out in court.
After Visser was crowned South African heavyweight champion in February last year when he beat Osborne Machimana in Vanderbijlpark, he was accused in a controversial and suspicious manner of having tested positive for the use of banned steroids.
Visser finally proved in court that the allegations against him were false and indeed very suspicious and he could continue his boxing career in October last year, when he fought in the Sun Arena against Luke Sutherland. He won the fight by technical knockout.
However, the 28-year-old Visser was not happy with his performance against Sutherland and promised an improved onslaught in his next fight.
On 10 February, Visser – known in the boxing world as “The Giant King” – returns to the Sun Arena, when he takes on the wily and experienced Zimbabwean heavyweight, Elvis Moyo.
Moyo, also known as “The Bulawayo Bomber”, is the ruling African heavyweight champion. He currently boasts five consecutive victories since he last lost in 2013 against Pretoria’s former world champion Danie Venter.
Tipping the scale at 120kg and standing 186cm in his socks Moyo is not what you would call small, but compared to the SA champ (2.07m and 118kg) he will be dwarfed. In recent years the Zimbabwean also made name as an MMA fighter and according to him, he learned skills in the Hexagon that made him a better boxer.
The fight between Visser and Moyo will be the main draw in a tournament that will again include three heavyweight battles.
Luke Sutherland will also return to Pretoria for a fight against Justice Siliga.
The very promising young heavyweight boxer from Northern Kwazulu-Natal, Josh Pretorius, will also be back in action when he will take on Kizito Rumhanye.
Other fights on the card at this Battle of the Warriors III tournament are Chris Thompson vs Lebo Moshitoa (cruiserweight); Denis Mwale vs Noah Chikwambane (featherweight) Valentine Mutunda vs Denys Lazarev (welterweight) and Dmytro Shcherbyna vs Simon Dladla (super welterweight).
