SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane makes Irene Homes winners

Residents of the Irene Homes for ladies with disabilities will again this year be responsible for the packing of the SPAR goodies packs that participants will receive if the enter the race.

SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane is immensely invested in the communities they serve.

According to Retha Ingenbleek, Race Organiser and Sponsorship Controller of SPAR North Rand, they have used Irene Homes for ladies with disabilities for more than 10 years to pack their goodies packs for the race.

“In turn, we donate money for their efforts to this voluntary organisation. The ladies from Irene Homes pack 25 000 goodie bags annually for the race,” Ingenbleek explained.

The residents of Irene Homes cannot wait to get involved in this annual project.

“We truly live the theme of this year’s race by saying to Irene Homes: #YesIAm capable and am worthy, said Ingenbleek.

She said SPAR is more than a business: it is a business with heart. The folks from Irene Homes burst into excitement when the time comes to pack the goodies bag. It is by far their most favourite and exciting project. Their love, enthusiasm and positive attitude for this project really tug at our heartstrings. They know the extent of their part and importance of their role in making the race so successful.

Their commitment to this project is palpable – they even have quality assurance in place where certain individuals are tasked to ensure that every bag contains the same contents. Their hearts are absolutely invested in race day and it lifts their spirits to know that they are part of such a big event.

The Irene Homes residents’ love for the race is evident in the fact that they support SPAR on race day while some residents with lesser disabilities even participate in the race.

Ingenbleek said it is important to expose organisations such as Irene Homes to this race as many don’t get the opportunity or cannot participate in race.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane takes place at 14:00 on 3 August 2019 at SuperSport Park Stadium in Centurion. Entries will be available from 10 May 2019, at selected SPAR stores and online at sparladiestshwane.co.za
