Netball team wins prestigious league after adopting SPAR Women’s Challenge race theme
The theme of this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane was the inspiration and a driving force for the Gauteng Jaguars netball team during their campaign in the Telkom Netball League.
The Gauteng Jaguars highlighted their local dominance winning their third consecutive Telkom Netball League title in Pretoria on 8 June 2019.
The Jaguars has established themselves as one of the top sporting teams in the country and as a dominant force in local netball. They have reached the Netball League final for six consecutive seasons winning the title for three years on the trot.
The team has adopted this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane race theme “Yes I Am”, which encourages the women of the capital city to embrace who they are as individuals and in the many roles they play.
Inspirational Jaguars coach Jenny van Dyk said the race theme resonated with her team as they continuous strived towards being true to themselves.
“We have encouraged the players to embrace the theme of ‘Yes I Am’, and hopefully we can inspire other women in the process. When you accept your shortcomings, and more importantly your strengths, you can declare to the world ‘Yes, I am a true champion’,” Van Dyk said after the victory.
The Jaguars have challenged schools from Tshwane to join them on race day and stand a chance to win a clinic with the champions. The school with the most registered entries for this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane will have a shot at winning a netball clinic.

Jaguars vice-captain Akosua Mensah said the theme reminded her of her childhood ambitions and realising life-long dreams.
“Yes I Am blessed to be what I have always wanted to be, which sends out a strong message to other girls that their hopes and dreams are within reach,” Mensah said.
