International stars strengthen Titans for local T20 series
Several Titans players who have been part of the Proteas' series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan over the past two months will be available to represent their franchise during the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge in Durban.
Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lungi Ngidi and Heinrich Klaasen are all part of the Titans’ squad that will participate in Cricket South Africa (CSA)’s local T20 Challenge from Friday at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
Another international star, Chris Morris, was also included in the squad.
Klaasen, who captained South Africa’s T20 squad against Pakistan, will be in charge of an impressive looking Momentum Multiply Titans squad.
Several other Proteas players will also be available for the other franchises. Among them are Temba Bavuma (capt), Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, Beuran Hendricks, Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rabada, and Rassie van der Dussen (all Lions); Keshav Maharaj (capt) and David Miller (Dolphins); George Linde, and Janneman Malan (Cobras); Marco Jansen, and Anrich Nortje (Warriors.
Two former Titans stalwarts, Farhaan Behardien and Shaun von Berg, will be in action for the Knights.
“Cricket South Africa is extremely excited ahead of our T20 Challenge. We are not just excited because the competition is upon us, but because of the quality of players that have assembled for this competition, said CSA Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith.
Smith congratulated the franchises for putting together such formidable groups of players.
“With the calibre of players that will be in Durban over the next two weeks, we can safely say that this will be much more than a domestic competition. It will be closer to an international competition and I am sure the younger players that are part of the squads will only benefit from having some of the best T20 players line-up alongside them. We look forward to a tournament of high standards and one that will undoubtedly attract widespread interest,” Smith concluded.
The Titans squad for the tournament are: Heinrich Klaasen (capt), Theunis de Bruyn, Grant Thomson, Henry Davids, Chris Morris, Sibonelo Makhanya, Dayyaan Galiem, Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Junior Dala, Okuhle Cele, Simon Harmer, Tabraiz Shamsi, Gregory Mahlokwana, Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams.
