Bavuma injured, Klaasen will lead Proteas in T20 series against Pakistan

Titans all-round star Heinrich Klaasen was named acting captain of the Proteas for the T20 series against Pakistan, starting in Johannesburg at the Wanderers on Saturday.

Proteas white-ball captain, Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming four-match KFC T20 international series against Pakistan after suffering a Grade One hamstring strain.

The injury took place during the third and final ODI on Wednesday in Centurion.

Local Titans stalwart, Heinrich Klaasen, will lead the Proteas for the purposes of the series.

In other team news, Reeza Hendricks has withdrawn from the series after the birth of he and his wife’s first-born child on Tuesday.

Dwaine Pretorius has not been medically cleared to take part in the series as he continues rehabilitation from a rib fracture.

Rassie van der Dussen will continue treatment and monitoring of his Grade One left quadriceps muscle strain.

The following players have been retained from the ODI squad: Aiden Markram, Andile Phehlukwayo, Daryn Dupavillon and Wiaan Mulder.

The updated Proteas T20 squad is as follows: Heinrich Klaasen (captain, wicket-keeper, Titans), Bjorn Fortuin (Lions), Aiden Markram (Titans), Andile Phehlukwayo (Dolphins), Beuran Hendricks (Lions), George Linde (Cape Cobras), Rassie van der Dussen (Lions), Janneman Malan (Cape Cobras), Sisanda Magala (Lions), Wiaan Mulder (Lions), Tabraiz Shamsi (Titans), Lutho Sipamla (Lions), Kyle Verreynne (Cape Cobras), Pite van Biljon (Knights), Daryn Dupavillon (Dolphins), Migael Pretorius (Knights), Lizaad Williams (Cape Cobras), Wihan Lubbe (Warriors).
