Tennis SA announces name of new CEO
Following the success of Tennis SA under the management of its dynamic former CEO, the future of tennis in South Africa has been entrusted to an experienced sports administrator, who has left deep traces, especially in rugby circles.
The board of Tennis South Africa (TSA) announced last week that Andre Homan was appointed as the federation’s new chief executive officer.
Homan will officially occupy his office in Centurion on February 1 this year. He replaces Richard Glover, who stepped down from the post at the end of 2021 after leading the organisation for five years.
According to a statement from Tennis SA, Homan brings with him a wealth of both academic and practical knowledge. He has extensive experience in the sports and events industries and holds two honours BAs and an MBA.
He joins TSA from the position of director of sales and hospitality for Circa, a leading company specialising in commercial ventures relating to major events and stadiums including Emirates Airline Park.
Previously he has worked as the commercial manager for Lions Rugby, as a project manager at the SA Rugby Union and as the commercial manager of Stadium Management South Africa. He has also been the general manager of the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s amateur arm – managing school, club, youth development and training programmes at grass roots and elite levels for more than ten years.
Homan’s long interest in sport is also evidenced by his career as a provincial rugby player for both the Leopards and the Lions and his qualifications in coaching/officiating in rugby and athletics.
“I am delighted and honoured to receive the confidence of the TSA board. With the federation’s rich history and many successes over the last few years, this is an exciting time for Tennis,” said Homan during the announcement of his appointment.
He believes that, despite the many challenges sporting organizations face in South Africa, there is a huge opportunity to grow the game of tennis and make it more accessible and inclusive.
“I look forward to working closely with the Tennis fraternity and plan to embrace the task of helping TSA’s diverse stakeholders achieve their goals with enthusiasm and vigour,” he remarked.
Gavin Crookes, President of Tennis South Africa, acknowledged the significant progress of TSA under Richard Glover’s leadership whilst welcoming Homan to the organisation.
“The board and I are looking forward to working with Andre to take South African tennis to the next level, building on the strong platform created by Richard Glover. I’d like to take this opportunity to warmly thank Richard for all his work for TSA and to wish Andre every success in his new role,” Crooks concluded.
