Athletics Gauteng North dominate ASA relays championship

While Athletics Gauteng North's athletes dominated the national senior athletics championships earlier in April, the union's representatives did the same at the ASA Relays and Combined Events Championships last week.

Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) were almost completely dominant in the senior and junior divisions this past weekend during the ASA Relays and Combined Events Championships.

This event was presented by Athletics Vaal Triangle (AVT) at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg.

The AGN squad raked in gold medals in the senior women’s 4x200m (1:35.53) and 4x400m (3:36.11) relay finals, as well as the u.20 women’s 4x400m (3:47.97) final, the senior men’s 4x200m (1:24.83), 4x400m (3:10.43) and 4x800m (7:33.22) finals, and the senior mixed 4x400m (3:23.66) final.

They also won the u.20 men’s 4x200m (1:25.82) and 4x400m (3:13.04) finals, the u.20 mixed 4x400m (3:29.26) title, the u.18 boys 4x800m (7:58.37) and the u.16 boys 4x800m (8:18.47).

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) won gold in the u.20 women’s 4x200m (1:36.92), the u.16 girls 4x800m (9:24.05), the u.16 girls medley relay (2:16.70), the u.20 men’s 4x800m (7:47.79), and the u.18 boys 4x400m (3:21.92).

Athletics Central North West (ACNW) won gold in the senior women’s 4x800m (9:01.45), Athletics Mpumalanga (AMPU) won the u.20 women’s 4x800m (9:27.68) and the u.18 mixed 4x400m (3:42.30).

Athletics Vaal Triangle (AVT) won the u.18 girls 4x400m (3:54.36) and the u.18 girls 4x800m (9:23.62), while Boland Athletics (BOLA) won the u.16 mixed 4x400m (3:42.20) and the u.16 boys medley relay (2:03.16).

In multi-discipline events, Fredriech Pretorius grabbing bronze (6 597) for AGN in the senior men’s decathlon. The 10 events were contested over two days.

Ruan Bronkhorst of AGN won gold in the u.20 decathlon with 6 291 points.

Shannon Verster wrapped up another gold for AGN in the senior women’s heptathlon, taking the win with 4 976 points from seven events over two days.
