SA’s biggest Muaythai promotion brings action back to Centurion
South Africa's biggest Muaythai league will soon host their fifth tournament at the Warrior Sports Centre in Centurion and the fight card will include two title fights.
The Warrior Sports and Fun-X-tional Fitness centre in Hennopspark, Centurion has been training athletes in various codes of Martial Arts for more than 15 years, while other members of the centre only come there for proper functional fitness training.
Martial arts such as Boxing, Kickboxing, Krav-Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are taught as such at the centre, while highly sophisticated techniques and science will benefit members who are only interested in functional fitness.
However, the centre is best known as probably South Africa’s biggest Muaythai gym and also the home of the Eclipse Fight League promotion.

Muaythai is known as the “Art of 8 limbs” because it makes use of punches, elbows, knees and kicks. The sport is practised and competed all around the world and is a fully recognised IOC sport.
Brett Clarke, owner of the Warrior Sports and Fun-X-tional Fitness centre and his partner Sven Grant are the founders of the Eclipse Fight League (EFL), which is operated from this centre.
According to Grant, they are independent from other martial arts promotions and their main goal at this point is to give athletes the opportunity to compete in fights and tournaments at a very high standard.
Clarke is one of South Africa’s most experienced MMA experts, commanding great respect especially in the Muaythai community. Among his students are members of the national Muaythai team and he is also a board member of this team.
Eclipse Fight League’s next big tournament takes place on August 20 at the Warrior Sports and Fun-X-tional Fitness centre in Hennopspark, Centurion. The action will start at 18:00.
This tournament will include, among other things, two important title fights. Firstly, this event will host the women’s Super-Featherweight title fight, while the fight for the men’s Pro-Amateur Welterweight Title is also on the cards.
In the women’s Super-Featherweight title fight, the exciting young local star, Liandra Backer, will face the more experienced Sonja Simon.

The two opponents in the men’s Pro-Amateur Welterweight Title fight are Given Mothiba, who initially made his name as a kickboxing champion from Mamelodi and another local star from Centurion, Marlinn Watton.
These two fights are just part of an evening of the best Muaythai action available in South Africa.
