All eyes on Johan Goosen when Blue Bulls take on the Griffons in the Currie Cup
The Bulls' Springbok flyhalf, Johan Goosen, makes his return to the team in Friday night's Currie Cup match against the Griffons after a rehabilitation period due to an shoulder operation.
While a real quality fly-half is one of the Bulls’ big problems in the United Rugby Championship, Johan Goosen’s return to the playing field in the Currie Cup game against the Griffons on Friday night will be closely watched, after he was side-lined for some time due to injury.
The Blue Bulls have also welcomed back the service of Nizaam Carr for round four of their Currie Cup campaign. The Pretoria outfit travels to Welkom, where they will take on the Griffons on Friday afternoon.
Kick-off for the clash is set for 15:00.
Goosen was side-lined due to shoulder surgery whilst Carr nursed a hamstring niggle. The pair are the only two changes made by coach, Edgar Marutlulle to the starting XV that did duty against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, a week ago.
Another player from club ranks, JP Alberts of the Wolverines, gets an opportunity to make his mark at Currie Cup level. Alberts is a hard-working loose forward, who is also at home at lock.
Marutlulle said that having Goosen and Carr return was a welcomed boost for the team.
“If anyone offers you Goosen for your Currie Cup game, you take him at the blink of an eye. He is a world-class player who has travelled the world, represented the Springboks and played really amazing rugby in his career and so we are excited to have him with us for the Currie Cup,” Marutlulle remarked.
