Arnold Sports Festival, probably the most popular sports event of its kind in the world, is back in South Africa in the post-Covid era and it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

This festival, also known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival, is an annual multi-sport event consisting of competitions for several individual sports that form part of one big festival, which is presented in the form of a weekend expo.

Although the Arnold Sports Festival internationally already had its origin in 1989, this popular event was officially presented for the first time in South Africa since 2016 under the official name Arnold Classic Sport Festival Africa.

The first four years of the Arnold Classic Sport Festival Africa was successful in growing annually with sporting codes, arts, and participants. This was clearly supported by the independent impact study produced by the company BMi Research each year.

Unfortunately, the impact of Covid protocols and regulations and consequent lockdown in 2020 and 2021 had a huge impact on the event industry and especially on major and mega events.

However, the Arnold Classic Sport Festival Africa is back, bigger and better than ever. The festival is also moving to a new site. It will be presented this coming weekend, 19-21 May, at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort, less than 40km from Centurion.

The Ruimsig Stadium will be transformed into a tent city for the course of the festival, where the various individual sports will be presented.

According to Wayne Price, Executive Director at Arnold Classic South Africa, this year over the course of the three days of the festival there will be around 10,000 participants in the various sporting codes.

These sports include literally every individual sport one can think of – from Archery to Wrestling. In particular, opportunities are given to smaller and lesser-known sports that do not normally have the opportunity to be practiced in front of large audiences.

The site also includes a dam, which enables the presentation of various water sports.

The rest of the spacious area around the stadium will be transformed into a real festival ground with exhibitions, food and drink stalls, children’s entertainment, a fitness and lifestyle expo, a flea market and much more.
