Dewald Brevis provided an anchoring performance for the Momentum Multiply Titans in the much-anticipated encounter against Western Province at SuperSport Park on Friday last week, but unfortunately, he could not save his team against the WP’s onslaught.

Titans’ lineup had collapsed to 40/5 in the first 10 overs, but a brave Brevis innings powered the hosts to a respectable target of 218.

Brevis continued to be a run-scoring machine, powering to 116 off 118 despite the fall of wickets around him. He found a partner in Donovan Ferreira (44) as the pair conjured up 62 runs for the 6^th wicket and the collapse continued to see Titans end the innings on 217 all out in 41.3 overs.

Mihaly Mpongwana (3/47), was supported by Beuran Hendricks (2/18), Nandre Burger (2/52) and Dane Paterson ( 2/46 ), who all claimed two wickets each.

With a final home game riding on the Western Province side, the visitors secured a narrow two-wicket win against their hosts in Centurion.

An all-round batting effort including a half century from skipper, Kyle Verreynne (56), backed by Tony De Zorzi (40), George Linde (37), and Valentine Kitime (25) played a crucial role in the successful chase.

Mathew Boast was the chief destroyer for Titans, returning three wickets, two scalps from Aaron Phangiso and everyone chipped in the bid to restrict the visitors, who ended on 221/8 in 31 overs.

– Unfortunately, the Titans’ sorrow continued Sunday when they faced the Lions in Johannesburg.

This match again resulted in a proper beating for the men from Centurion. After the Lions won the toss, they sent in their neighbours from across the Jukskei River to bat first.

Only three Titans players could reach double figures, with Brevis once again doing best with the bat by scoring 24 runs. Modiri Litheko (14) and Dayyaan Galiem (10) were the other two Titans players who could get out of the singles column.

Finally, they were all dismissed in the 23rd over for only 78 runs.

With the Lions’ opening batsmen Ryan Rickelton (41) and Joshua Richards (24) at the helm, their  target could be reached after just 11.1 overs. Therefore, they won by 8 wickets with 233 balls remaining.

These two defeats over the weekend mean that the Titans ended fifth on the log.

The Western Province (first) and North West (second) will play this coming Saturday in the final of the series to determine a champion.
