Golf lovers from Pretoria can once again experience the SA Open

The 113th SA Open Golf Tournament is being held this coming weekend at the Blair Atholl Golf & Equestrian Estate near Lanseria in Centurion.

After the success of last year’s presentation at the same golf estate, the prestigious SA Open golf tournament returns to Centurion this year.

This tournament, one of the oldest open golf tournaments in the world, celebrates its 120th birthday this year and is once again being hosted at the Blair Atholl Golf & Equestrian Estate in Lanseria, Centurion from 30 November to 3 December 2023.

Although the tournament is 120 years old this year (the first SA Open was played in 1903), the 2023 tournament will only be the 113th of this event. During the war years (first and second world wars), as well as in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid crisis, no SA Open took place.

The DP World Tour will present this co-sanctioned event with the Sunshine Tour and the tournament is always a highlight on the yearly golf schedule.

The championship Gary Player Signature Design course at the Blair Atholl Golf & Equestrian Estate will again provide a stern challenge to the top professionals from around the world.

According to the General Manager of Blair Atholl, Steve van Greunen, preparation for the event has already started a few months ago.

“We are extremely proud to host the event again, and we are grateful to Investec, the Sunshine Tour, the DP World Tour and other sponsors for the opportunity to showcase not only our magnificent golf course, but the unparalleled living our residents enjoy at Blair Atholl,” said Van Greunen.

Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, said Blair Atholl was a wonderful host of the SA Open in 2022, and they look forward to returning to this iconic venue.

“The golf course provides a myriad of options to test what we know will be another world-class field, and the entire estate represents the greatness we strive for on the Sunshine Tour in partnership with Investec,” Abt remarked.
